FLAME UNIVERSITY

FLAME University in Pune, India, is a private university known as a pioneer in liberal education in India, offering multidisciplinary undergraduate and postgraduate programs, including B.A., B.B.A., B.Design, and M.B.A. Established in 2015, it focuses on holistic, student-centric learning with an interdisciplinary approach, allowing students to combine majors and minors, and emphasizes leadership, innovation, and real-world skills, with a vibrant campus life and strong placements.

Pune is a vibrant city that blends history, education, culture, and modern living with ease. Often called the “Oxford of the East,” it is home to some of India’s top universities and research institutions, giving the city a youthful, intellectual energy. Historically, Pune was the heart of the Maratha Empire, and this legacy still shows in its forts, old neighbourhoods, and cultural pride. At the same time, Pune is also a major IT and startup hub, especially around Hinjewadi, Kharadi, and Baner, making it both traditional and forward-looking.

The city is known for its pleasant climate, green hills, and easy access to nature—treks, forts, and weekend getaways like Lonavala and Mulshi are just a short drive away. Pune’s food scene is equally diverse, ranging from iconic Maharashtrian dishes like misal pav to trendy cafés and global cuisine. Overall, Pune feels calmer than Mumbai but more dynamic than a typical city—a place that values learning, culture, and quality of life, while still offering plenty to do and explore.

Traveling from Pune Airport to FLAME University is a smooth and straightforward experience. After landing at Pune Airport and collecting your baggage from the conveyor belt, the best way to reach the campus is by booking a prepaid airport taxi or an app-based cab such as Uber or Ola. The journey to FLAME University, located in Lavale, takes about one to one-and-a-half hours depending on traffic.

The route passes through key areas like Baner and Bavdhan before gradually giving way to greener, quieter surroundings as you approach the campus. The final stretch is scenic and hilly, offering a calm transition from the city to the university environment. Upon arrival at the main gate, campus security guides visitors to the reception or hostel area, making the overall journey safe, comfortable, and well-organized.

What is Kurukshetra?  Kurukshetra is the flagship cultural and sports festival of FLAME University (in Pune, India). It’s a large, student-run event that brings together students from across India and beyond for 3–4 days of cultural competitions, performances, workshops, and sports. The festival blends arts, creativity, athletics, and student energy, making it one of the most anticipated annual events at FLAME.

History — How It Started?:  The festival began as an initiative by FLAME students to cultivate a vibrant campus culture beyond academics. Its name — Kurukshetra — draws from the legendary battlefield in the Mahabharata, symbolizing healthy competition and spirited engagement. Over the years, the event expanded from internal showcases to a larger inter-college fest, inviting participants from other universities for competitions in music, dance, drama, literary arts, photography, debates, and sports.

What Kurukshetra Is Like in 2026: In 2026, Kurukshetra at FLAME University has evolved into a well-established cultural and sporting festival with features like: Competitions & Events: Cultural Battles: Dance, music, fashion shows, dramatics, and fusion arts. Literary & Creative Arts: Debates, poetry slams, writing contests, and art exhibitions. Workshops & Talks: Guest artists, performers, and industry professionals lead interactive sessions. Sports & Games: Team sports, athletics, and fun campus games. Performances & Concerts: Evening pro-nights with live performances from popular bands, musicians, or DJs. Student talent shows spotlighting emerging performers.

Inclusivity & Vibe: A mix of competition, camaraderie, cultural exchange, and celebration. Welcoming atmosphere for both university students and visiting delegates. Reinforces FLAME’s emphasis on holistic education — balancing academics with expression and leadership. Brings together a wide student community from multiple institutes.  Acts as a platform for young talent in arts, sports, and performance.

Badminton at FLAME Kurukshetra: Badminton has consistently been one of the most competitive and well-participated sports at Kurukshetra, FLAME University’s annual inter-college cultural and sports festival. Known for its fast pace and intense rallies, the badminton tournament attracts players ranging from casual enthusiasts to highly trained competitors, making it one of the most anticipated sporting events of the fest.

When It Happens: The badminton tournament is typically held during Kurukshetra, which usually takes place in January or February. Matches are spread across one or two days, depending on participation, and are scheduled alongside other major sporting events. How the Tournament Is Conducted: Categories generally include: Men’s Singles. Women’s Singles. (In some editions) Mixed Doubles or Men’s Doubles, depending on time and registrations. Registration opens a few weeks before the festival, with slots filling up quickly due to high demand. Matches are conducted in a knockout format, ensuring high-stakes games from the very first round. Games follow standard badminton rules, with on-ground referees and student volunteers ensuring smooth coordination.

What sets the Kurukshetra badminton tournament apart is its electric atmosphere. Friends crowd around the court, cheering loudly for every smash, drop shot, and rally. The matches often go down to the wire, with momentum  shifting rapidly and underdogs frequently challenging experienced players. Winners at Kurukshetra badminton vary each year, as the tournament is open to a wide pool of participants from different colleges and backgrounds. Rather than being dominated by a single institution or player, the event is known for fresh faces and surprise victories,  which keeps the competition exciting and unpredictable. Beyond trophies and titles, the badminton tournament at Kurukshetra represents: Sportsmanship and discipline, Mental agility and physical endurance, A break from academic routines through healthy competition. For many players, it is not just about winning, but about testing their limits, playing under pressure, and experiencing the thrill of competition on a larger stage.

My Kurukshetra Experience: On Court, With a Racket in Hand: Participating in badminton at Kurukshetra was one of the most grounding and memorable experiences of my time at FLAME University. Kurukshetra, the university’s annual cultural and sports festival, brings an energy to campus that’s hard to describe unless you’re in the middle of it. For me, that energy found its shape on the badminton court—early mornings, tight schedules, nervous stretches, and the quiet focus that settles in just before a match begins.

On the day of my event, the court buzzed with anticipation. Players from different colleges warmed up beside me, each of us carrying our own mix of excitement and nerves. The cheers from the sidelines were loud, but once the rally started, everything faded except the shuttle, the footwork, and the rhythm of the game. Every point demanded presence. Every mistake taught patience.

What made the experience special wasn’t just competing—it was the spirit around it. Win or lose, there was respect between players, encouragement from teammates, and an unspoken understanding that we were all there for the love of the sport. Between matches, conversations flowed easily—about strategy, about college life, about how Kurukshetra had brought us together.

I didn’t walk away with just scores or results. I walked away with sore muscles, a clearer mind, and a quiet sense of pride. Playing badminton at Kurukshetra reminded me why sports matter—not only as competition, but as moments of focus, discipline, and shared joy. In the middle of music, performances, and celebrations, my Kurukshetra lived in those rallies and rest breaks. And every time I pass the court now, I remember that feeling—standing there with a racket in hand, fully present, fully alive.

For me, Kurukshetra unfolded on the badminton court. Amidst the music, celebrations, and crowds, my experience was defined by quiet moments of focus, fast-paced rallies, and the steady rhythm of the game. Each match demanded presence—there was no room for distraction. Win or lose, the court offered lessons in patience, resilience, and respect. What made it memorable was the shared spirit among players, where competition coexisted with encouragement and mutual admiration.

By the end of Kurukshetra, I walked away with more than match results. I carried with me a renewed appreciation for sport as a space for growth, connection, and self-discovery—an experience I’ll always associate with my time at FLAME University.

PLANNING THE TRAVEL

Apps to install: Airline app (or make sure you have confirmation email). Ride apps: Ola, Uber. Google Maps, WhatsApp (for contacting people), payment apps (PhonePe/Google Pay/Paytm). A map or screenshot of Flame University & Krea University location.

Packing: Carry-on bag with: phone + charger, power bank (charged), mask, small sanitizer, essential meds, water bottle (empty through security then fill), snacks, headphones, printed directions. Checked baggage: pack clothes, ID copies, chargers in carry-on too. Lock your checked bag if you like. Follow airline baggage rules (weight & size). Check the airline site — free allowance varies.

Safety & timing: Book a flight that gives you comfortable buffer times. For first solo trip choose a daytime flight. Arrive at Bengaluru airport at least 90–120 minutes before domestic departure (longer if it’s a busy period). For first solo trip, 2 hours is safer.

Step A — Buying the plane ticket (Bengaluru → Pune): Use airline website or aggregator (MakeMyTrip / Cleartrip / Goibibo) or airline app (IndiGo / Air India / SpiceJet, etc.). Compare price + baggage included + flight time. Choose a direct flight from BLR → PNQ. Enter passenger details exactly as on ID. Save PNR/booking reference and email it to yourself + family. Pay with card/UPI. Note the PNR and e-ticket PDF. Add your mobile number for SMS updates and enable flight alerts in the app.

Step B — Online check-in & boarding pass: Online check-in window: usually opens 24–48 hours before departure (depends on airline) — check message or airline site. When check-in opens: open airline app or website → enter PNR → choose seat → download/print boarding pass or save on phone’s wallet. If you have checked baggage, you can still do online check-in; you’ll drop bag at the airline counter at the airport. Have your boarding pass (mobile or printed) handy.

Step C — At Bengaluru Airport (departure): Arrival at airport: get there 90–120 min before flight. If you have checked baggage: go to the airline’s bag drop / check-in counter → show ID + boarding pass → agent will weigh & tag bag and give you baggage tag slip. Keep it. If you only have carry-on, you may skip this step.

Security check: follow signs for security. Have boarding pass + ID ready. Empty pockets. Remove laptop/tablet from bag into separate tray. Liquids ≤100 ml in a single clear zip bag (carry-on), shoes off if required, belts off. After screening, go to departure gate. Gate closes ~20–30 minutes before takeoff (airline will state exact time). Don’t be late.

Boarding: boarding is by group/zone — show boarding pass + ID to gate staff → board plane. if anything is confusing, airline counter staff and airport volunteers help. Keep calm, ask.

Step D — During flight: Keep seatbelt on when told. Confirm where the arrival gate / arrivals area is in Pune via crew or onboard information.

Step E — Arrival at Pune Airport (PNQ): After the plane parks, follow signs to Arrivals / Baggage claim. Conveyor belt & baggage collection: find the flight number on the screens → go to assigned belt → wait for bag(s). If your bag doesn’t appear: go to airline’s baggage desk nearby immediately and file a Property Irregularity Report (PIR). Customs/Immigration — for domestic, no immigration. Sometimes a security check on the way out. If you have any online taxi/pre-booked transfer: follow meeting point instructions. If meeting someone at arrivals, confirm a clear landmark & mobile contact.

Step F — From Pune Airport to FLAME University (Pune): Distance & time: Flame University (near Lavale, off Pune–Bengaluru highway) — roughly 35–45 km from Pune Airport depending on route. Travel time varies with traffic. Options: Prepaid airport taxi (recommended for solo travelers). At airport, go to prepaid taxi counter → request fixed fare to FLAME University (tell them you want Lavale / FLAME University). You’ll get a slip; driver will be assigned. Prepaid rides are safer than haggling. App taxi (Ola / Uber): Book from app once you exit arrivals. Confirm driver name/vehicle and share trip with family. Check fare estimate. Note: airport pickups sometimes have surcharge or require waiting at a designated pick-up zone. What to tell the driver: “Flame University, Lavale” (show the driver the location on Google Maps). Keep your phone charged, stay in touch with your Flame contact.

Arrival at Flame: ask to be dropped at the main gate/Reception. Carry your student confirmation/ID to check in.

Step G — From FLAME University to KREA University (overview + detailed steps). Krea University is located in Sri City (near Chennai) — you’ll travel FLAME → Pune Airport → flight Pune→Chennai → land transfer to Krea (Sri City).

1) FLAME → Pune Airport: Aim to reach Pune Airport 2 hours before flight departure with checked baggage. From Flame, allow plenty of time for road travel (traffic can be heavy). Typical road time 45–80 minutes depending on exact location & traffic. Pre-book taxi or ask Flame for an arranged transfer. Follow same steps at Pune airport: check-in counter for checked baggage, security, boarding.

2) Flight: Pune → Chennai: Book a direct flight PNQ → MAA (Pune → Chennai). Use the airline app or aggregator as before. Online check-in 24–48 hours before, get boarding pass. On arrival at Chennai airport (MAA), follow signs to Baggage claim and collect checked baggage from the correct conveyor belt.

3) Chennai Airport → Krea University (Sri City): Krea (Sri City) is outside Chennai — travel options: A. Private taxi / app taxi (recommended for door-to-door). At Chennai airport, book an Ola / Uber or a prepaid airport taxi to Sri City / Krea University, Sricity. This is typically a 1.5–2.5 hour drive depending on traffic and where in Chennai you land. Keep enough buffer time. Pre-booked airport taxi is safest for solo traveler. Share your trip live location with family. B. Train + local taxi (less recommended for first solo): You could take a train from Chennai to Tada or Sullurpeta and then a taxi, but trains and last-mile connections are more complicated with baggage and for first solo travel.

At airport — steps: Collect baggage, check phone for message from the taxi / university. If taking app taxi, choose an airport pickup location (follow airport signs). Verify car number & driver. Share live trip. Keep local SIM or roaming working so you can call driver. Have emergency contact numbers at Krea.

Extra step-by-step checklists & safety tips: At airport security. Remove laptop/tablet to separate tray. Liquids in 100 ml bottles in a single clear 1-litre zip bag. Keep boarding pass + ID in hand when approaching counters/gates. If bag missing at arrival belt → go to airline baggage counter immediately and file PIR. Keep bag tag number (from bag drop). Taxi & ride safety. Verify car number & driver photo before boarding. Share live trip with family via Uber/Ola or share location on WhatsApp. Prefer prepaid or app taxis at airports. Domestic flights: check-in 60–90 minutes before, but arrive 90–120 min for your first solo trip.  Stay hydrated (but limit liquids just before security). Stretch legs on long rides, walk around airports between flights.

Timeline (illustrative): Day 0 evening: Buy ticket BLR→PNQ; check baggage allowance. Day 1 morning: Online check-in (24 hrs before if possible), print/save boarding. D-day (flight): Arrive at BLR T2 2 hours before flight → check bag → security → board. Arrival PNQ: collect baggage → prepaid taxi to Flame (1–1.5 hr) → check into campus. Next leg (FLAME→KREA): leave FLAME to reach PNQ early for Pune→Chennai flight → land Chennai → collect bag → taxi or university transfer to Krea (Sri City). Short quick checklist for the traveler (print this) Docs: Aadhaar/passport, student ID. Flight PNR & boarding pass saved. Phone charged, power bank, apps installed (airline, Ola/Uber, Maps, WhatsApp). Cash + card + UPI ready. Pack small toiletries in carry-on according to rules. Share travel plan & real-time location with family. Note Flame & Krea emergency numbers and addresses.
